A Junior Firefighter (JFF) program is provided for qualified persons between the ages of 16 years and 18 years.
These people may participate in the duties of a "Junior Firefighter" or "Junior Educator" upon successful completion of the "Basic Recruit Academy".
The qualifications for this program are as follows:
Meet all regular volunteer requirements except age.
Be 16 years old upon completion of the "Basic Recruit Academy".
Provide the Training Officer documentation from the school attended that the applicant has had a minimum of a 2.5 GPA for the last 12 months.
Provide at least one (1) written recommendation from an adult employee of the school attended.
Provide parent/guardian written authorization to participate in program.
Additionally the department will not pay for outside schools unless the training officer recommends a specific school that will definitely benefit Junior Fire fighters. This recommendation must be approved by the Chief Officers.
No Junior Fire fighters will at any time drive any department vehicles or operate power tools.
All Junior Firefighters will be covered by OR-OSHA, federal and state labor laws.
Junior firefighters shall not be issued badges.
