If Firefighting Is Not For You,
You Can Still Volunteer!

Volunteer Public Educators (Pub ED):  Pub Ed members present public safety and fire prevention education, and activities to schools and community groups.  They sponsor such programs as the AARP “55 & Alive” course to promote Senior Driver Safety; CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Teams) designed to help out in our community before, during, and after a disaster; and Blood Pressure Clinics.  CPR Instructors provide free CPR and First Aid classes each month to local citizens.  Public Educators also manage the Life Jacket Lending Program in conjunction with the McKenzie River Guides Association.  The guides purchase the life jackets and McKenzie Fire & Rescue maintains the jackets, keeps track of inventory, works with local businesses along the river that loan the life jackets and provides information on the program to the public.  This Pub Ed team along with Sparky the Fire Dog is constantly promoting citizen welfare, safety and health.  New volunteer Public Educators are always welcome.

Volunteer McKenzie Trauma Team or “MTT” is a group of specially trained citizen volunteers who provide non-medical emotional and practical support in the first few hours following a crisis situation or tragedy.  The MTT volunteers are called to a crisis scene by authorized firefighters and/or police officers.   Since MTT’s first call in May 2003, the group has responded to 19 family member deaths, 1 suicide, 2 motor vehicle accident fatalities, 2 serious motorcycle accidents, 3 structure fires, 1 delayed notification of death, 2 distraught patients to the hospital and 3 emotional distress calls providing our community members with much needed assistance during their time of need.  MTT currently has 10 members.

Volunteer Boosters are a group of community members who support the district.  The Boosters provide food and refreshment on extended alarms and burn-to-learn training exercises often at a moment’s notice, organize an annual Awards Banquet for the volunteers and raise funds through their annual 2 day Garage Sale.  The Boosters work long hours and tirelessly at these events giving all their proceeds for special equipment needs of the fire district.  The district currently has 29 active boosters.
